  2. - Capacitative deoionization

Our unique ability to control the chemical nature of our thin-films has allowed us to develop a different form of deionization that can serve not only as a water softening device but also as a total water treatment system. The principle here is that all charged species are removed on the charged plates of a capacitor much like particles are removed in an electrostatic precipitator. However, our capacitative system uses our ultracapacitor novel films placed on conducting carbon supports.

When the ultracapacitor is full of ions, the potential is reversed and the ions are flushed out as a waste. This process uses no additional salts and therefore is more environmentally friendly than resin type exchange systems.

We now have a working prototype of this system shown in the video above. This particular device was built by a class of freshman engineering students and designed to deliver water to a family of four in third world countries and runs on solar energy. This system is currently being licensed and improved by SolRayo WC.
