• Firing processes
The last process in producing microporous material is typically a firing step. Here, particles are sintered to themselves and to the substrate. Depending upon temperature and firing time, changes occur in surface area, porosity, and in crystalline phase. By doping particles with other metals we can adjust the temperature of phase transition. In the end, we obtain sintered films that are of porous or non-porous supports. The mechanical integrity of these thin-films is largely governed by the support itself.
